About the Mission and Purpose of Helping Hands Community Car

At Helping Hands Community Car, we believe that every person regardless of age, ability, or circumstance deserves the freedom to live with dignity, purpose, and connection. Our mission is to drive hope. We provide safe, dependable, and compassionate transportation for seniors, military veterans, and individuals with mobility challenges ensuring they can reach the care, community, and moments that matter most.

Each ride we give is more than a trip it’s a message: “You are not forgotten.”

It’s a warm hand extended to those who have given so much, a reminder that independence and belonging are rights, not luxuries.

With integrity as our compass and compassion as our fuel, our team is devoted to creating a world where no one is left isolated by distance, disability, or circumstance.

At Helping Hands Community Car, every mile carries a mission to serve with heart, drive with purpose, and bring humanity back to every journey.

Helping Hand’s Community Car was founded by Wanda Edwards, a lifelong resident of Bumpass, Virginia, whose heart for service has always guided her life’s work. After retiring in July 2024 from over 20 years in the healthcare industry as a caregiver, Wanda felt a divine calling to continue helping others in a new way by providing free transportation services to the elderly and disabled members of her community.

Inspired by her mother, Mrs. Doris Edwards, whom she calls her hero, Wanda saw a deep need among those who struggle to find accessible and affordable transportation. Many individuals are not eligible for state or federally funded services, leaving them isolated or unable to meet their daily needs. With compassion, faith, and a lifelong commitment to care, Wanda stepped forward to fill that gap.

Helping Hand’s Community Car was born out of this mission to serve, uplift, and connect. Wanda donates her time and vehicle to provide rides for medical appointments, errands, day trips, and community outings. While she does not charge for her services, she accepts donations to help with fuel and routine maintenance so that she can continue offering this much-needed support.

Beyond transportation, Wanda’s vision is to bring a sense of community, dignity, and hope to those she serves. Her goal is not only to help people reach their destinations but also to remind them that they are seen, valued, and cared for.

“This is where God has led me and my mother, and I have faith that if we come together, this work will bless our entire community.”
